The women’s rowing team traveled down to Ohio State this weekend for an ironically friendly scrimmage with a bitter rival. And Michigan coach Mark Rothstein thought his team did quite well.

“I thought it was a good day for us,” Rothstein said. “We had a similar scrimmage with Michigan State a couple weeks ago. I definitely saw some good progress, and our results were good. More importantly, we rowed better than we did two weeks ago.”

It’s still early in the preseason, so Rothstein has the “training wheels” on his team, but he is still excited about what his team has shown thus far.

“It’s the start of October and our championship season is in May so we have a long way to go, but I like the direction were heading,” Rothstein said. “We have a lot of ability and a lot of possibilities. We have a lot of good athletes in this program. At this point were just working on developing and forming a good direction.”

The Wolverines will look to progress in two weeks during another exhibition at Michigan’s own Lake Leelanau.
