'M' finishes tourney with a bang

Published February 21, 2007

The Michigan women's golf team used a strong final round yesterday to catapult it to a fifth-place showing at the Central District Classic in Sedona, Ariz.

The Maize and Blue headed into day two of the tournament in 10th place, but vaulted into contention in the 14-team field thanks to a season-best team score of 294. It was the Wolverines' fourth top-five performance this year.

Michigan was lead by senior Brianna Broderick, who finished in a tie for 15th place in the individual portion of the tournament. Her final round 72 played a huge role in the Wolverines' low team score.

Another welcome surprise was the play of freshmen Ashley Bauer and Andrea Ratigan, who both notched one-over par 73s on Tuesday.
