LIVE BLOG: Volleyball vs. Ohio - second round of the NCAA Tourney

Welcome to the Michigan Daily's Live Blog of the 2009 NCAA Volleyball Tournament.
The 16th-ranked Wolverines face the Ohio Bobcats in the second round of the NCAA Tournament tonight. Michigan is looking to advance to the Sweet 16 for the third straight season.
Last night, the Wolverines defeated the Niagara Purple Eagles in three sets. Sophomore left side hitter Alex Hunt led the Michigan attack with 14 kills on the night. All fourteen healthy Wolverines saw playing time.
But tonight, I'm guessing that might be a little different as they are facing a much better team.
Ohio knocked off Notre Dame in a five-set match earlier yesterday afternoon. The Bobcats are led offensively by Ellen Herman, who is the all-time kills leader in program history. Ohio won the MAC this year, for the sixth time in seven seasons.
The match will be begin at 7:30 p.m. inside Cliff Keen Arena and is projected to be sold out.

The Wolverines are off and running early. Two miscues on digs by the Bobcats sent the ball over the net and Bower and Paz were there to put away the kill.

After the Wolverines jumped off to a quick 4-0 lead, the Bobcats took the next six points. Michigan is definitely finding out that this match will be a dogfight compared to last night's cake walk.

Well, the match is tied up. Michigan has been in this situation all year, where they have won the match in the last couple of points so this is nothing new to them.
I'm really impressed by this Ohio team. It is definitely legit.

Ohio wins first set 32-30. Michigan is in for a fight tonight.. The Wolverines shot .176 in the first frame. Hunt led the attack with six kills. Zimmerman dished out 13 assists.

Ohio's block has been working well tonight for it. It had five in the first set and already has two this one. Hopefully, Rosen is making some adjustments in the timeout. Let's see.

I guess I'm not that shocked because Ohio is a good team but Michigan isn''t playing anywhere near its best volleyball.
The Wolverines have had eight service errors on the night and are hitting a .172 offensive clip. They will need to seriously pick it up because now it's do or die time.

Well, the Wolverines are out to a fast start. Hopefully they can keep this going for the rest of the matc. Paz is having a solid night and she looks to be the go-to player right now for Zimmerman.

Ohio takes another TO with the Wolverines rolling. Michigan is minimizing the amount of attack errors and is really playing well with the ball. Paz is the hot hitter right now for the team.

The Wolverines should have put Ohio away a few points ago but that's not the case.
They are, however, playing a lot better this frame. They'll need two more like this in order to advance.

5-2 Zimmerman throws one in the center of Bobcat defense and Ohio is late to react. The Wolverines are coming out and really playing aggressive.
