LIVE BLOG: Michigan softball goes for sweep of visiting Kentucky

BY LUKE PASCH

The No. 2 Michigan softball team (14-1 Big Ten, 39-6 overall) takes on visiting Kentucky (11-14 SEC, 29-22 overall) in game two of the series at 4pm.

Senior pitcher Nikki Nemitz gets the start — she currently possesses a 15-3 record with a 1.88 ERA.

In last night's matchup, the Wolverine lineup notched five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 5-4 lead, which was enough to seal the deal. Nemitz entered the game in the seventh to earn her first save of the season. Junior pitcher Jordan Taylor got the win — her 22nd — giving up four runs on seven hits and striking out 10.

Sophomore centerfielder Bree Evans initiated the scoring in the sixth frame when she led off with a triple and scored on the same play due to a base-path obstruction. Senior catcher Roya St. Clair hit a two-run shot, and Nemitz hit a two-run double in the same inning.
