Michigan's season ends in gut-wrenching loss to Tennessee
BY LUKE PASCH
Yesterday, the No. 2 Michigan softball team was upset by No. 15 Tennessee in game one of the NCAA Super Regional in Ann Arbor, 5-0.
In order to advance to the WCWS, the Wolverines will have to beat the Lady Vols twice today — game two starts at 4:30 and game three (if needed) at 7:00.
Michigan will be experimenting with the lineup a bit, as sophomore leftfielder and leadoff hitter Bree Evans suffered a fracture in her right arm when she was hit by a line-drive foul ball off the bat of junior first baseman Dorian Shaw in the fourth inning yesterday. Senior centerfielder Molly Bausher will bat leadoff, as freshman Amy Knapp will come off the bench to bat ninth, and senior Kristin Larsen will take over left field duties.
Senior hurler Nikki Nemitz will get the start for game two.
Tennessee dominated from the mound last night, as freshman hurler Ivy Renfroe was throwing a no-hitter heading into the seventh inning. Shaw broke it up with a one-out single in the final frame.
Junior pitcher Jordan Taylor only gave up one earned run and struck out 1o, but errors and illegal pitches allowed the Lady Vol lineup to cross the plate five times.
