Lee returns to Michigan basketball program as administrative specialist, Conlan promoted

BY BEN ESTES

C.J. Lee is back.

The former guard and co-captain of the Michigan basketball team has been hired by head coach John Beilein as an administrative specialist, filling the position of Travis Conlan, who was promoted to Director of Basketball Operations, Beilein announced in a press release Tuesday evening.

Lee played for the Wolverines from 2006-09 after transferring from Manahttan College. He initially competed as a walk-on, but Beilein awarded him a scholarship in 2008 during his senior season. When he returned for his fifth year in 2008-09, Lee was awarded the captaincy along with David Merritt.

The pair's leadership was cited as one of the main reasons that Michigan was finally able to return to the NCAA Tournament in 2009. Lee averaged 2.5 points and 1.7 assists per game in his final season.

"I am thrilled to come back and formally be a part of the Michigan basketball program," Lee said in the release. "This is an opportunity that I am very thankful for. I look forward to learning under Coach Beilein, his staff, and the entire athletic administration. My role will allow me to learn the operations side of collegiate athletics and see the game of basketball from a different perspective."
