Hollins scores Big Ten honors

BY ZAK PYZIK

Michigan women's basketball coach Kevin Borseth made it known at the beginning of the season that he was hesitant to start freshmen. But there was something about guard Dayeesha Hollins that made him act outside of his own conventions.

Hollins leads the Wolverines with 152 points in just 11 games, averaging 14 points a game with 45 assists. She has even added 23 steals to further impress.

Now, after leading Michigan to victory in her 22-point performance against then-No. 8 Xavier in her hometown of Cincinnati and finishing with double-digit points for the her third straight game against Detroit, Hollins was awarded Big Ten Player of the Week and Big Ten Freshman of the Week. She is the first player in Big Ten women’s basketball history to win both awards.

Hollins and the Wolverines will finally end their month-long, eight-game road trip with a home game on Dec. 28 against Northwestern.
