Former Ravens defensive coordinator Greg Mattison hired as Michigan DC
BY RYAN KARTJE
Former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Greg Mattison will become Michigan's defensive coordinator, according to an athletic department press release.
“Greg loves Michigan, loves recruiting and is excited about coming back to Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan,” Michigan football coach Brady Hoke said in the release. “Greg is one of the top defensive coordinators in football, and his defensive units have always prided themselves on stopping the run. He will be a great asset to our program and an excellent addition to our staff.”
Mattison joins offensive coordinator Al Borges to complete the Wolverines' coaching staff under new head coach Brady Hoke. In two years with Baltimore, Mattison's defenses were ranked in the top 10 of the NFL.
In his tenure as a college defensive coordinator, Mattison served as Michigan's defensive coordinator in 1995 and 1996. He was also the defensive coordinator of Florida's 2006 BCS Championship team. And in that 2006 championship game, Mattison's defense held Ohio State under 100 yards of total offense.
