Former Michigan quarterback arraigned on drug charges

BY TREVOR CALERO

Former University football player Justin Feagin was arraigned Monday for three separate drug charges stemming from a botched plan to transport cocaine from his home state of Florida to Ann Arbor.

Feagin, who left the University after being kicked off the football team in July for, as Coach Rich Rodriguez said, "a violation of team rules," was charged in district court in Ann Arbor with conspiracy to posess 25 to 49 grams of cocaine, conspiracy to possess less than 25 grams of cocaine and conspiracy to deliver less than 50 grams of cocaine, according to a story from the Detroit Free press. The story goes on to say that, if convicted of the delivery charge, Feagin could face "up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $35,000," and that "the possession charges carry a maximum sentence of four years in prison and a fine of up to $35,000."

The drug charges are related to an incident last winter that involved Feagin and another University student, Timothy Burke. The two attempted to set up a drug deal where Feagin would obtain cocaine from a contact he knew from Florida, where he grew up.

After Feagin failed to obtain the drugs in a certain period of time, Burke attempted to scare him and set fire to a hall in West Quad.

Burke, who was arraigned on the same charges, is set to appear in court today, according to AnnArbor.com. Feagin has a preliminary hearing set for Nov. 4.
