Perhaps the least likely candidate for a summer blockbuster, “The X-Files: I Want to Believe,” seemingly came out of nowhere. Why was it made? The television show on which it’s based has been off the air for a good six years now, and virtually no one talks about the weak film version from 1998. Who, then, decided to make a sequel? Surely only a madman would take this — a dreary melodrama about God, organ harvesting and pedophiliac priests, set in the wintry backcountry no less — and release it in the heat of summer, right after “The Dark Knight.”
