DeShawn Sims named Big Ten Player of the Week

BY NICOLE AUERBACH

Michigan men's basketball senior forward DeShawn Sims was named the Big Ten Player of the Week after averaging 21.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, while shooting 62.1 percent from the field (18-for-29) during the past two games. It's the third time in Sims' career that he has been named Big Ten Player of the Week.

The Wolverines didn't fare particularly well during the two-game stretch that earned Sims his award, and they went 1-1 in conference play. Sims led Michigan in its incredible come-from-behind victory over Penn State last Thursday with a game-high 25 points, including 10 in the first half where Michigan only scored 16 points total.

Sims also put up great numbers in Sunday's loss to Northwestern: 17 points, eight rebounds, and a career-best-tying three blocks.

This is the second time this season that a Wolverine has won the award. Junior guard Manny Harris won it on Nov. 16, 2009 after his triple-double performance.
