Coleman to NYT: N.C.A.A. should be led by a D-I university president ... but not me.

BY MATT AARONSON

Since the death of N.C.A.A. President Myles Brand last month, University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman has been one of the names floated in speculation regarding his replacement.

In an article published in today's New York Times, Coleman didn't exactly fan the flames, but she didn't definitively put the rumors to rest, either.

While she denied interest in the position — as did all four supposed candidates — she said Brand's successor should be a president at a university with Division I athletics.

She told the Times she was "deeply engaged at the University of Michigan."
