Coleman declines comment on NCAA investigation, regents meeting
BY KYLE SWANSON
University President Mary Sue Coleman declined to comment today on the ongoing NCAA investigation into the Michigan football program or on yesterday’s informal meeting of the Board of Regents.
The regents met yesterday morning in an informal meeting to receive an update on the NCAA probe into allegations that the Michigan football program violated NCAA rules that govern the amount of time players are allowed to spend practicing in the off-season.
Coleman spoke to The Michigan Daily after hosting her monthly fireside chat — an invitation event that allows students to ask Coleman about campus issues they are concerned about. Asked about the regents meeting and the NCAA investigation, after the event, Coleman said she would not comment on either topic.
The NCAA formally launched its investigation in October and at the time NCAA Vice President for Enforcement David Price wrote he expected the investigation to be completed by the end of 2009, though the estimate was not a strict deadline.
