Citizens advised to 'stay vigilant' after armed bank robbery
BY MICHELE NAROV
The City of Ann Arbor issued a Code Red earlier this morning, advising citizens to “stay vigilant” after an armed robbery occurred at about 9:10 a.m. at the Lake Trust Credit Union located at 2222 Packard St.
Ann Arbor police have “ceased actively looking for the suspect in the immediate area,” according to a second Code Red notification issued at about noon today.
The suspect is described as a black male with a medium build, and wearing a ski mask, grey hooded sweatshirt, black pants and white shoes at the time of the robbery, according to the second alert, and it is believed that he has fled the area.
Lieutenant Angella Abrrams of the Ann Arbor police department said the investigation is currently underway but the search in the area, which involved a "canine track" has ended. Abrrams added that the canine track produced no results.
Ann Arbor Public Schools are “following procedures for returning to normal activities,” the second notification states.
The suspect was last seen carrying a handgun and running westbound from the scene.
The robbery is second in a string of armed bank robberies. Last week, two suspects robbed the Bank of America Eisenhower branch at the intersection of Eisenhower Parkway and Packard Street.
Abrrams said authorities cannot say whether or not the two events are related.
“It’s premature to draw that conclusion because it’s too early in the investigation,” Abrrams said.
Authorities warn citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.
