A Cappella Showdown: Dicks and Janes vs. MSU's Capital Green on PBS

BY CAROLYN KLARECKI

Everyone would like to forget our football team's past season. Especially that overtime loss to little brother Michigan State. But now we have a chance to strike back!

Saturday at 7 p.m. our very own Dicks and Janes will square off against MSU’s Capital Green in the very first A Cappella-thon live on Detroit Public Television. The concept is simple: The groups will take turns performing songs from a variety of genres and viewers can call in and vote for their favorite group. Pumped? You should be.

The Dicks and Janes have advanced to the quarter finals of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) for the past eight years, have won numerous awards for outstanding soloist, arrangement and vocal percussion and were featured on the Best of College A Cappella album for ’02, ’03 and ’04.

Now it should be noted our “competition” doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page ... amateurs. However, Capital Green will be competing in the ICCA quarter finals this year, so our public television match-up should make for a nice scrimmage. Except we can control the outcome.

Tune into Detroit Public Television on Dec. 12 and support the Dicks and Janes in their quest to take down MSU. Don’t forget to vote! Who needs a bowl game when we’ve got college a cappella!?
