— Junior wide receiver Greg Mathews didn't participate in the portion of Wednesday's practice that the media was allowed to attend. He wore a red jersey, which denotes the player isn't practicing, and pedaled on a stationary bike near the field.

— Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said junior running back Brandon Minor will get his second straight start Saturday.

— Rodriguez also said redshirt freshman quarterback Steven Threet's elbow is in better shape than it was last Wednesday. Threet wore a green jersey, signifying a minor injury.

— Redshirt sophomore Nick Sheridan is still the No. 2 quarterback.

— Rodriguez confirmed redshirt junior guard Cory Zirbel will miss the entire season with a knee injury he suffered before the season. The injury may be career-threatening, he said.

— For the third straight week, no player of the game poster was on display in Schembechler Hall.
