In Ann Arbor and nationwide, youth vote propels Obama to victory

If there was any voting bloc Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama knew he could count on this Election Day, it was young Americans.
And deliver they did: Nearly seven in 10 voters between the ages of 18 and 29 chose the Illinois senator over Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

Democrat Hathaway unseats chief justice of Michigan Supreme Court

DETROIT -- In the last three decades, incumbent Michigan Supreme Court justices have only lost twice. One of those times was Tuesday, when after a hard-fought and expensive campaign season, Wayne County Circuit Judge Diane Hathaway defeated Chief Justice Cliff Taylor last night by a surprising margin – 48 percent to Taylor’s 39 percent.

WARREN, Mich. — Despite concerns over the potential for malfunctioning voting machines and erroneous challenges to voters’ eligibility, clerks, poll workers, and voters throughout southeast Michigan said they experienced a smooth Election Day with almost none of the anticipated problems.
