Ann Arbor City Council rebuffs state budget draft

The resolution sponsored by Councilmembers Margie Teall (D-Ward 4), Marcia Higgins (D-Ward 4) and Greden, expressed City Council’s dissent over the proposed state budget, which would “slash statutory revenue sharing to Michigan municipalities by 30 percent,” according to the resolution. That cut amounts to a loss of approximately $1,200,000 per year for the City of Ann Arbor, the resolution shows.
FBI reports Ann Arbor property crime on the rise, as violent crime holds steady

Property crime in Ann Arbor jumped 12 percent in 2008, while violent crimes remained relatively stable, dropping 1 percent when compared to the 2007 figures, according to the FBI.
In Washtenaw County, however, the number of violent crimes reported to the sheriff’s department was up 59 percent and property crime increased 8 percent.
University alum traverses country to raise money for multiple sclerosis

University alum Joe Fairchild arrived in Ann Arbor last Tuesday for what could have been a simple four-day visit. Only, rather than arriving by car, bus or Amtrak train, Fairchild walked into town pushing the modified baby stroller he’s been living out of since early August.

City and 'U' team up to create a more walkable Ann Arbor

Many already consider Ann Arbor to be a healthy town, but a new project may make it even healthier. Fuller Intermodal Transportation Station (FITS) is the City of Ann Arbor’s transportation vision that expands upon the existing bus, rail and train systems and emphasizes alternative forms of transportation, like walking and biking.
