Regents Notebook: Purchase of former Pfizer campus by ‘U’ nears completion

At Thursday’s Board of Regents meeting in Dearborn, Mich., Timothy Slottow, the University’s executive vice president and chief financial officer, announced that the $108 million purchase will be complete on June 16, after the due-diligence period — which ensures that the site complies with state and federal regulations — ends on May 18.

Regents approve a 3.9-percent increase in room and board rates

At Thursday’s Board of Regents meeting, the Regents approved the residence hall room and board rates for the 2009-2010 academic year. Students living in residence halls will pay an average of 3.9 percent more for student housing next year than in the 2008-2009 school year.

'U' administrators release initial budget proposals

University of Michigan to go completely smoke free in 2011

All three University campuses will be smoke free when a new policy announced by University administrators yesterday takes effect on July 1, 2011. The initiative is meant to reduce the health risks associated with secondhand smoke and reduce health costs associated with smoking. According to a press release on the policy, about 14 percent of University employees are smokers.

How the University formulates its annual budget

The University’s budget is massive, to say the least. With totals of more than $5.2 billion in operating revenues and expenses at the University’s three campuses, including the University of Michigan Health System and the Athletic Department, it’s easy to see why developing the University’s budget is almost a year-long process.
