Burke evades NBA Draft, will return to Michigan for sophomore season

Michigan safety Furman suspended after legal trouble, no timetable set

COLUMBUS — The No. 20 Michigan softball team is wrapping up its three-game series against Ohio State with a doubleheader.

Freshman righty Sara Driesenga is starting the first of two games after having a stellar performance batting yesterday. Driesenga hit two solo homers to help the Wolverines come back from a 2-0 deficit to win, 10-2.

COLUMBUS — The No. 20 Michigan softball team is wrapping up its six-game road trip this weekend in Columbus. Ohio State (5-1 Big Ten, 21-11 overall) hosts the Wolverines in a rivalry match-up for second place in the Big Ten standings.

Devils' VP: No negotiations between Merrill, NHL club

Sophomore defenseman Jon Merrill, widely assumed to be a flight risk during the offseason, seems to be remaining at Michigan for at least another season, according to New Jersey Devils’ vice president David Conte. The Devils drafted Merrill 38th overall during the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Women's basketball coach Kevin Borseth resigns

In a meeting this afternoon with the team and coaching staff, Michigan women's basketball coach Kevin Borseth announced his resignation. He will be returning to University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where he spent nine years as the head coach before coming to Ann Arbor.

Report: Freshman Trey Burke to bolt for NBA entry draft

According to CBS Sports, Michigan point guard Trey Burke will declare for the NBA draft. Sources told CBS that the freshman will forego his last three years of eligibility and pursue a career in the NBA.

Brown forgoes senior season, signs with Phoenix organization

Michigan junior forward Chris Brown has decided to forgo his senior year and sign with the Phoenix Coyotes’ organization, a release from the hockey club announced Thursday. The deal is a three-year, entry-level contract. Financial terms were not made available.

Fortunately for Shawn Hunwick, Scott Howson, the general manager of the Columbus Blue Jackets, had other plans.

And when starting Blue Jacket goaltender Steve Mason went down with an injury during Wednesday's morning skate, Hunwick got the call.

Michigan basketball's Smotrycz, Christian, Brundidge leaving program

On Wednesday afternoon, Michigan coach John Beilein released a statement announcing that sophomore forwards Evan Smotrycz and Colton Christian and freshman guard Carlton Brundidge have all decided to leave the Wolverines.

Beilein’s announcement was concise, and he did not reveal any motives for their decision.

DETROIT — We're LIVE from Joe Louis Arena where No. 3 Michigan will take on No. 14 Western Michigan in the CCHA finals.

The Wolverines narrowly defeated Bowling Green, 3-2, on Friday night in double overtime in the semi-final game. The Broncos, on the other hand, are coming off a definitive 6-2 win over Miami (Ohio).
