CSG hearings postponed, election results to be released early Friday morning

Worries that election hearings would stretch past midnight and into Friday morning have been allayed as the University Election Commission has announced it will release the results of the Central Student Government election early Friday morning — opting to hear the remaining four hearings Friday night.

With the polls closing midnight Thursday, three complaints have already been filed with the University Election Code and the hearings are scheduled to begin at 10:30 p.m.

After weeks of politicking, talking and chalking, five presidential tickets and more than 100 total candidates will compete for executive and representative seats when the Central Student Government election begins Wednesday at 12:01 a.m. Starting then, students will have 48 hours to log onto http//www.vote.umich.edu to cast a ballot.

Student hit by car while riding bike

A University student was hit by a car while riding his bicycle in front of the Union around 2:50 p.m. Monday.
An Ann Arbor Fire Department fire truck, two University Police Department vehicles and an ambulance responded on the scene.

Taubman Preview Week features prominent speakers

As part of the 2013 Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning preview weekend, Greg Lynn and Mitchell Silver, two prominent figures in the fieldl, delivered lectures on Friday to a crowd of about 200 people. The lectures were part of the preview weekend for newly admitted students.

This Week in History: First graduate student council is formed

75 years ago this week (March 30, 1938):
The first graduate students’ council was formed at the Michigan Union. This would be the first organized meeting of graduate students of any school in the nation. The purpose of its initiation was to involve graduate students in more aspects of University affairs.
