In Other Ivory Towers: Students panic after rumor that police were raiding dorms for alcohol

Several hours of panic ensued at the University of Virginia on Tuesday after a rumor spread across campus that police were randomly searching dorm rooms for alcohol, The Cavalier Daily reported.
The rumor allegedly originated from a personal prank between two students over social media. Word of the alleged searches quickly circulated to the rest of the student body and university officials.

Alumni Profile: Doug LaBrecque

Starring in roles such as The Phantom and Raoul in “The Phantom of the Opera,” Doug LaBrecque, who earned his master’s degree from the University in 1988, has performed in numerous productions throughout his career. Recently making his Carnegie Hall debut as a soloist with the New York Pops, LaBrecque has continued to perform solo among some of the world’s top symphony orchestras.
