Downtown Event: Winter Warriors!
BY ERIN GREEN
Downtown businesses are doing all they can to get you out and eating during the winter months, when business is slow. Last week was Restaurant Week (which unfortunately we didn't write about) when all the fancy-schmancy restaurants downtown offer several-course meals on a prix fixe (fixed-price) menu, to encourage you to try them if you otherwise wouldn't.

Panini Grill: The Holy Grail of Cafeteria Food
BY JOELLE FIGUEROA HECKER
I haven’t had to do dishes in nearly three years. I haven’t had to shop for groceries, cover leftovers, or brew a pot of coffee for just as long. For my three years at Michigan, my residence has provided meals for me. The last two years I’ve resided in my sorority house where the two chefs on staff prepare our meals and ensure we have plenty of snacks.

Kitchen staples: frozen fruits & veggies
BY ERIN GREEN
I've been trying to eat healthier lately, and we all know the easiest way to eat healthier is to get more fruits and veggies, right? Sometimes it's hard though, when being a busy student makes it difficult to plan meals in advance or cook as often as I'd like.

Better Than Stouffer's Lasagna
BY JORDAN KRISTOPIK
I ate a lot of food this weekend. Seriously, a lot. I was up north for the long weekend (whoo!), with a big group. And we like to eat.

Microwave Monday--Healthier BLT
BY ERIN GREEN
I bet some of you have set New Year's resolutions pertaining to weight loss or healthier eating--here's a recipe for you. Despite the lettuce and tomato in their name, BLTs are not particularly healthy, but they are delicious. Usually, the calorie (and fat) culprit in BLTs is mayonnaise, but the bacon doesn't help either.

The Luck of the Irish (Oatmeal)
BY JORDAN KRISTOPIK
Michigan students, meet Irish steel cut oatmeal. This is not your typical, cafeteria-style oatmeal. It is not sticky, gooey, or bland. This is your hot, sexy version of oatmeal. It has flavor. It has texture. And it will rock your breakfast (and lunch. And dinner).

Escape to Poland
BY JORDAN KRISTOPIK
When I'm home for break, I try to eat as many big, complicated, and long meals as possible. I want things I can't make at school, and dishes other members of my family are especially good at cooking. I love my mom's beef stroganoff, my dad's enormous omelettes, and my aunt's french nut roll. But I especially love my Grandma's polish cooking.

Stir-fry Fun
BY ERIN GREEN
Stir fries are one of the most versatile dishes you can make. Basically, you can throw in whatever you have on hand, or if you're going by a recipe, substitute whatever you like. They take a lot of prep work, and you'll spend some time chopping (get a good cutting board and knife--I consider these kitchen essentials, even for poor students!). But, the actual cooking time is really fast.

Carb Up (with Homemade Bread)!
BY JORDAN KRISTOPIK
Before I begin, let me introduce myself as one of the new food bloggers for the year. I'm a sophomore here, and find myself thinking about recipes, baking, and cooking far more than I should. I live in a small apartment with an even smaller kitchen (one person only), with no dishwasher, no garbage disposal, and no storage.

Happy Thanksgiving!
BY ERIN GREEN
I subscribe to Food Network Magazine, and I love it. It's a new magazine, and a work in progress, but it's shaping up to be unique and helpful, and it contains extra info that other magazines don't about my favorite Food Network chefs, behind-the-scenes features, etc. This month's magazine is no exception--it's filled with Thanksgiving treats galore.
