Block 'M' Blog: Who's Hot, Who's Not

BY STEVEN BRAID

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. And while the “Hot or Not” meter can sometimes be off in its assessment, I like to think that it’s pretty darn accurate when it comes to determining whether you should be taking a second look at a team or letting your eyes wander elsewhere. With that, it seems to be that time again, so welcome to the third installment.

Block 'M' Blog: Big Ten basketball power rankings, Feb. 11

BY DANIEL WASSERMAN

1) No. 1 Indiana (previously: 1-a): All season, two things have held steady about the Big Ten. First, it’s undisputedly the nation’s toughest conference, and second, to say winning on the road is hard would be a massive understatement.

Block 'M' Blog: Daily Sports Power Rankings: Feb. 8

BY COLLEEN THOMAS

Michigan athletics keep churning out wins, and now that baseball and softball seasons have officially started, there will be plenty more athletes to keep tabs of on campus. That might not be an easy task if you can’t pick out Denard in the Maize Rage.

Block 'M' Blog: Around the CCHA

BY LIZ VUKELICH

Though the Michigan hockey team avoided the CCHA cellar with its first sweep of the season over Michigan State last weekend, there’s still a lot more going on in the conference than teams trying to keep their heads afloat. It’s time for the weekly installment of Around the CCHA, where we take a look at some of the league highlights and lowlights.

In defense of Florida, and this week’s projections

BY MARK EDLUND

After a quick glance at the Dominance Index, it’s probably obvious that though my top-ranked team has a Dominance Rating 30 percent higher than its nearest competitor, it isn’t ranked No. 1 in any mainstream poll.

Tempo’s role in Wolverines’ early success

BY MARK EDLUND

For as explosive and efficient as the Michigan men’s basketball team is on offense, it only operates as the 267th (of 347) fastest in the country. The Wolverines’ tempo is almost always slower than their opponents’.

Block 'M' Blog: Big Ten basketball power rankings, Feb. 4

BY DANIEL WASSERMAN

1) (1-a) No. 1 Indiana (previously: 2), (1-b) No. 3 Michigan (1): Both teams followed impressive early-week wins with what will go down as one the most intriguing games of the season. The Hoosiers get this week’s 1-a spot for their 81-73 win, but the cream and crimson played with a fully healthy roster and in front of perhaps the best home-court advantage in the nation.
