Updated Michigan hockey playoff scenarios

BY MATT SLOVIN

The Michigan hockey team controls its own destiny to host a first-round CCHA playoff series next weekend.

With a win, which would clinch home-ice advantage, the Wolverines could finish as high as seventh in the conference. To do so, they would need another Bowling Green loss against Notre Dame. If the Falcons and Wolverines both win, Michigan would finish eighth.

1) No. 1 Indiana: Even if they lost a closely-contested battle in East Lansing on Tuesday, the Hoosiers still might’ve found themselves at No. 1. None of that matters, though, as Indiana left the Breslin Center with statement win, putting themselves in the driver’s seat for the regular-season Big Ten Championship.

Games at NFL stadiums, close margins of victories followed by blowouts — just another weekend in the CCHA. This past week, the conference’s top schools proved why they deserved the top spots, while once again, the bottom-feeders are trying to do everything in their power to avoid a trip to Alaska in the first round of the Tournament next month.

1) No. 1 Indiana: With a cupcake game against Nebraska and a rivalry game with sputtering Purdue, the nation’s top-ranked team didn’t have too much to play for. Bu the Hoosiers kept on rolling, thanks to 28 and 29-point wins. Next up: a colossal Tuesday-night showdown at Michigan State that could ultimately decide the regular-season conference champ.
