Ben Folds seduces the crowd at Hill

BY LENA FINKEL

Epic

I’ve never been one to obsess over Ben Folds. Sure his songs are pretty, but I don’t think I have a single one on my iPod. But that was before his concert at Hill Auditorium on Thursday. I’m not afraid to say it: Ben Folds is clearly a genius. He may have been that weird kid sitting in the back of your bio class in high school, but now he’s an effortlessly cool rock star.

'West of Memphis' a complex account of tragedy

BY BRIAN BURLAGE

Sony Classics

“West of Memphis” approaches this travesty of justice with honesty and a special focus on the state officials. Many scenes are occupied with detailed proceedings of the trial, including a few brief on-camera statements made by the prosecution and defense teams. Lorri Davis, who read about the case and eventually married Echols, enjoys a prominent feature. Harrowing images of the murder scene are shown early on to effect a bitterness in the viewer, which is ultimately solidified through the trial’s dissolution.

A Pixar lover responds to 'Finding Dory' announcement

BY GABY VASQUEZ

Ellen

When I first heard that “Finding Dory,” the just-announced sequel to “Finding Nemo,” was coming out November 2015, my immediate reaction was disbelief. As the news had been announced right after April Fool’s Day, I was sure that this was a prank Disney and Pixar were playing on us. A sequel to my favorite movie of all time (besides “Dead Poets Society,” of course) and starring my favorite character? This could not be real. But, after extensive Googling, I had no choice but to accept that this is actually happening, it is not a prank, we are actually getting a movie all about Dory.

Pick up your 'Pom Poms' for the return of the Jonas Brothers

BY GIBSON JOHNS

Jonas Brothers Recording, LLC

I don’t know about you, but I had no idea the Jonas Brothers were planning on releasing new music together and the lack of fanfare surrounding their new single “Pom Poms” is both ironic and unsettling.
