Though University President Mary Sue Coleman won’t hand over the keys to the President’s House until July, the University community isn’t wasting any time before celebrating her career.
The University’s executive officers will hold a “thank you” reception for the outgoing president March 14 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Michigan Union’s Rogel Ballroom. The event will be open to faculty, staff, students and community members.
While the University has not released complete details for the event, it is already backed by star power. Jeff Daniels, perhaps best known for his roles in “Gettysburg” and most recently “Newsroom,” will emcee the reception. Daniels is a University honorary degree recipient and longtime resident of Washtenaw County.
During the event, guest books will be available for attendees to leave notes and well wishes for the outgoing president.
Coleman, who announced her retirement last spring, will step down from the University’s helm after 12 years in the role. University President-elect Mark Schlissel, the provost of Brown University, will become the University’s 14th president in July.
