University employee struck by Blue Bus passes away

The University employee who was struck by a Blue Bus early Thursday morning has passed away, University police confirmed Friday morning.

University Police spokeswoman Diane Brown identified the employee as Nancy Sanders, a 58-year-old woman from Belleville, Michigan who worked in University Housing.

The incident occurred at Ann Street and Zina Pitcher Road, the intersection between the Medical Campus and Couzens Residence Hall, at around 6 a.m Thursday morning.

At the University Board of Regents meeting Thursday, E. Royster Harper, vice president for student life, offered her condolences to the employee, her family and the rest of the university community.

“She is a well known and beloved staff member, so we want to let the family know thoughts and prayers are with her, as they are with the bus driver and the rest of Michigan,” Harper said.

Police are still investigating the circumstances of the crash.

This is a developing story.
