University employee in critical condition after being struck by Blue Bus

BY SAM GRINGLAS

A University employee was sent to the emergency room early Thursday morning after she was hit by a University Blue Bus.

University Police spokesperson Diane Brown said the woman is a 58 year-old staff member from Belleville, who remained in critical condition as of 10:15 a.m.

The incident occurred around 6 a.m. at Ann Street and Zina Pitcher Road. The intersection is between the Medical Campus and Couzens Residence Hall.

The area was closed following the incident, but Brown said it had reopened by 9:45 a.m.

Details on the circumstances of the crash weren’t immediately available.

The incident is not the first to involve a Blue Bus in the last year. In February, a Blue Bus struck a pedestrian at North University Avenue and Thayer Street. In separate incidents earlier in the academic year, a bus became stuck in a turnaround, a bus crashed into a bus stop and two students were injured when they fell out of a bus.

This is a developing story.
