Attempted sexual assault on the diag

An attempted sexual assault occurred in the West Hall arch on the southeast corner of the Diag at about 3 a.m. Sunday morning, University Police reported in a crime alert.
A female was approached from behind, was told to be quiet and the suspect tried to remove her pants. When other pedestrians approached, the suspect ran.
The suspect is a thin, black male, about 35 years old and was “wearing a black baseball cap, blue sweatshirt, jeans and carrying a backpack.”
University Police spokeswoman Diane Brown said there was no additional information at this time.
The University’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Michigan Union. It also offers a 24-hour crisis line at (734) 936-3333.
