Armed robbery reported Saturday night


An armed robbery occurred Saturday night at about 10:30 p.m. in front of the Detroit Observatory, according to a crime alert sent out by University police Sunday morning.

The alert stated University police were told that a pedestrian was approached by a man with a black handgun who demanded his property. The man then grabbed the victim’s backpack and cash before fleeing on foot in the direction of Zina Pitcher St.

The man was described by witnesses as a Black male, 6'2", with a thin build, dark complexion and short hair, wearing black pants, a black hoodie and blue and white tennis shoes, and with no glasses or facial hair.

The man has not yet been identified or found. This is the second armed robbery reported since April.
