A disappointing trailer for A2-filmed 'Engagement'
BY SAM CENZHANG
The premise of “The Five-Year Engagement” is not exactly groundbreaking. Emily Blunt (“The Adjustment Bureau”) is a charming British girl engaged to Jason Segel (TV’s “How I Met Your Mother”), who plays ... Jason Segel. She gets a job and becomes TOO BUSY FOR LOVE. Their wedding eventually becomes, yes, a five-year engagement. The movie was filmed in Ann Arbor last summer, during which time the Internet freaked out over a video of Blunt and Alison Brie (TV’s “Community”) singing karaoke somewhere. It’s a remarkably quick turnaround, if not a remarkable movie.
As for the trailer itself, the movie doesn’t seem to have much substance. There are some corny jokes, and we get a glimpse of Chris Pratt (TV’s “Parks and Recreation”) being very Chris Pratt. Emily Blunt demonstrated some serious chops in “The Adjustment Bureau,” but they’ll probably go wasted here. The movie also features the Internet’s girlfriend Alison Brie speaking in a British accent, so everyone should probably see it. Plus, you can totally be all, “Psh, why did they film that there?”
