Sen. Levin announces AATA grant

BY BRIENNE PRUSAK

U.S. Senator Carl Levin (D–Mich.) announced today that the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority will receive a $2.1 federal grant to help fun new hybrid-electric buses through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Clean Fuels Program, according to a Nov. 17 press release.

The grant was given to AATA in hopes of helping improving energy efficiency and air quality, the release said.

Levin stated not only will the grant help promote clean-energy, it will also help create jobs.

“Michigan knows better than most states the value of promoting emerging clean-energy technologies not just for the environment, but to create jobs,” he explained. “Helping local communities adopt these technologies makes them more affordable and available and it helps us protect clean air.”
