Seeing Red: Obama 2012 — hope not

BY KYLIE KAGEN

Upon following a link to a Huffington Post article featuring an apparently wretched picture of Mary Sue Coleman (just for giggles, here it is), I was quite surprised when I was essentially web-slapped in the face with a giant ad asking me if I was “IN…” that is, “in” for showing my support for Barack Hussein Obama’s re-election campaign. I don’t remember the last time I clicked an “x” button with so much fervor. No, no, NO I will NOT support your re-election, Mr. President, but I’ll tip my hat to your borderline pathetic efforts to woo America’s (ever gullible) population via the magical interwebs.

On this very same morning, I saw the first “I’m in!” Facebook profile stamp proclaiming an unnamed friend’s support for Obama’s reelection campaign. Out of a mixture of annoyance and curiosity, I decided to follow the link to see where the Obama camp’s head is in relation to utilizing the world’s most powerful social network to its advantage. The link takes you to a section of barackobama.com (check it out here) in which you have the opportunity to proclaim your allegiance to our most unworthy President via Facebook. The page also features a ridiculous video of “average” people essentially encouraging you to give Obama another four years to bring all of the “hope” and “change” he was supposed to have miraculously brought this country over the past two years. I would like to think that my fellow Americans are not so easily made into sheep.

Because the American youth may be the easiest to convince (which is saddening and almost insulting to my generation’s intelligence), I have to admit that the Obama camp’s use of Facebook to spread the good news is part of a good plan. What I can only hope is that people aren’t willing to be made fools of again by putting a man back into the White House who didn’t deserve to be there in the first place. Resist the trendy Facebook feature, guys – as cute of an addition to your profile as it may seem (ooh look, I’m all political and stuff!), the lack of Presidential quality you’ll be supporting makes it all a wash.
