Campus Corner: Ann Arbor's staple spots

BY KAT CARTWRIGHT

If you’re a senior graduating in two weeks, I’m sure you’ve been reminiscing about your last four years here at Michigan. A graduating senior myself, last week I realized I haven’t visited some of Ann Arbor’s staple spots. When it dawned on me that I’ve yet to eat at the Broken Egg or trek to the local Farmer’s Market, I knew I needed to cross these two spots off my list before I could proudly call myself a Michigan alum.

Waking up Saturday morning, a group of friends and I wandered down Main Street to get breakfast at the infamous Broken Egg. Not knowing exactly what to expect but having high expectations, I walked in the door and knew this breakfast joint wasn’t going to disappoint me. Though we had to wait some time before being seated, the fun “Go Blue!” atmosphere and delicious food made this local restaurant a spot I highly recommend to any waffle or scrambled egg lover.

Once unable to consume any more food, my friends and I headed to the local Farmers Market in Kerrytown. Walking around the stalls we found everything from locally grown produce to handmade jewelry and clothing. Currently the Farmers Market is only open on Saturdays, but for the students staying for spring term the market will be open Saturdays and Wednesdays starting in May and is definitely worth checking out.

After exploring a few of Ann Arbor’s staples and realizing what we’ve been missing out on, my friends and I’ve decided to go on adventures, or “field trips,” every few days until we graduate. Whether you’re ending your freshman year or college career, I encourage you to check out Ann Arbor's numerous staples before it’s too late. Next on our list and perhaps good additions to your list: Angelo’s, Afternoon Delight, Mark’s Carts and The Heidelberg.
