The University of Florida could be announcing the selection of its new president by Dec. 5, the school's last day of classes for the semester. Florida President Bernie Machen is stepping down at the end of the year, though the presidential search committee has said it will not pick someone until members are sure they've found the right person. If the committee doesn't make a selection by the end of the semester, the decision could be put off until January.

On Nov. 14, an employee of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst pleaded guilty to stealing about $175,000 from her former employer, Myers Information System Inc. Amy Wing, executive assistant to the director of Residential Life, allegedly stole the money from October 2009-May 2011 by writing company checks to herself, overcompensating herself and making personal purchases on the company credit card.
