Maynard Street sidewalk closed due to broken sewer line
BY MARY HANNAHAN
As the season’s first sign of snow trickles down, workers attempt to break through the concrete on Maynard Street to get to a broken sewer line. An on-site worker said that the water line supplies water to shops in Nickels Arcade, and the shops cannot run water or use their bathrooms.
The workers added that once they break through to the sewer line, the problem will be easy to fix.
Jim Saborio, the owner of Comet Coffee, said that he was notified of the problem at 8 p.m. last night and was told he could no longer use water due to drainage issues. He closed his shop for the day but was told by officials that the problem would be fixed by tonight. He expects to open the shop as usual tomorrow.
“It’s kind of sad to see everyone pulling at the door,” Saborio said. “But I have sold three bags of coffee.”
While Saborio hasn’t experienced drainage issues in the past, he said shops in Nickels Arcade closer to Maynard Street have been experiencing sewage problems all week because all of the water flows in that direction.
