The 2012-13 Michigan hockey roster was released Thursday and, despite only three goalies being listed, the team plans on carrying four.
Incoming freshman goaltender Steven Racine was omitted from the roster. He was left out for protocol reasons, as it's typical for players who didn't sign a National Letter of Intent to require clearance from the University's Compliance office before being added. A similar scenario occurred last season with sophomore goalie Luke Dwyer.
Following the formality, Racine's name will be added as the fourth goaltender, marking the first time Michigan has carried that many since 1997. That season, current NHL goalie Marty Turco led the quartet of Wolverine backstops. Incoming freshman Jared Rutledge is expected to be the starter this season.
The incoming freshmen who have been officially added to the roster are as follows with sweater number in parentheses: Rutledge (28), defenseman Jacob Trouba (8) and forwards Justin Selman (10), Boo Nieves (12), Daniel Milne (16) and Andrew Copp (18).
