Baseball game suspended due to thunderstorms
BY MAX COHEN
It would take a combination of Eastern Michigan and thunderstorms to prevent the Michigan baseball team from extending its 10-game winning streak.
Just three minutes after the game started on Wednesday night, lightning lit up the sky, causing a mandatory rain delay. Michigan redshirt junior Logan McAnallen recorded two quick outs before the one hour, 47 minute delay.
When play resumed, McAnallen finished the inning. In the bottom half of the inning, Michigan freshman shortstop Travis Maezes doubled, stole third and then scored on a wild pitch to give the Wolverines the early lead.
The lead didn’t last for long, though, as Eastern Michigan first baseman Adam Sonabend scored from second base after he doubled and Maezes committed a throwing error in the second inning.
The Eagles extended their lead to 4-1 in the third. Michigan freshman right-hander Alex Daar came in to pitch and walked three straight batters before being replaced by junior right-hander Alex Lakatos, who proceeded to hit a batter, walking in a run. Two batters later, Sonabend singled, knocking in two more.
The thunderstorm returned with one out in the bottom of the third inning, causing another mandatory delay. A few minutes later, it was announced that play was suspended.
The game will be concluded next Tuesday at 6 p.m., followed by a seven-inning game that was already on the schedule.
