Four-star parade highlights historic weekend for Michigan recruiting

BY STEPHEN J. NESBITT

Michigan football coach Brady Hoke scored more times than Ohio State star forward Jared Sullinger this weekend.

Sullinger hit six shots against the Michigan basketball team in a 56-51 loss on Saturday. Hoke scored six four-star recruits on Saturday, then added another pair on Sunday for good measure.

The Wolverines had never earned more than three commitments in a single day since accurate records began being kept in 2003.

Saturday's approximate timeline:

• 12:15 a.m. — Kyle Bosch, four-star offensive lineman from Wheaton, Ill. (St. Francis)
• 12:50 a.m. — Wyatt Shallman, four-star athlete from Novi, Mich. (Detroit Catholic Central)
• 2:45 p.m. — Jourdan Lewis, four-star cornerback from Detroit (Cass Tech)
• 2:45 p.m. — David Dawson, four-star offensive lineman from Detroit (Cass Tech)
• 10:45 p.m. — Chris Fox, four-star offensive lineman from Parker, Colo. (Ponderosa)
• 11:20 p.m. — Taco Charlton, four-star defensive end from Pickerington, Ohio (Central)

Sunday:

• 7:10 p.m. — Jake Butt, four-star tight end from Pickerington (North)
• 9:15 p.m. — Logan Tuley-Tillman, four-star offensive lineman from Peoria, Ill. (Manual)

All eight of the weekend's commits are pegged within the Rivals.com top-200 rankings. Considering Michigan's three previously committed athletes — quarterback Shane Morris, defensive back Dymonte Thomas and tight end/fullback Khalid Hill — 10 of the 11 recruits made the top-200, with Hill being the only man left out.

Michigan has now collected five prospects on the Rivals100 list of top recruits: Morris (No. 16), Fox (46), Bosch (60), Thomas (77) and Butt (96). Alabama trails Michigan with four commits in the top-100. Just 34 members of the Rivals100 have already committed to a university.

The Wolverines are expected to take around 20 total recruits in the 2013 recruiting class. Just three weeks after scoring 25 recruits to wrap up the 2012 class, Hoke and Co. is halfway home for 2013.

And don't look now, but there are more visitors in Ann Arbor today.
