2013 saw debut albums from two A$AP Mob members, Rocky and Ferg, but just because 2013 is over doesn’t mean the A$AP takeover has to come to an end as well. Actually, the Mob is planning on releasing another compilation tape on Mar. 4th — “L.O.R.D.” — that is already sounding much more promising than 2012’s “Lord$ Never Worry.” Member A$AP Nast released the first single, “Trillmatic,” with a notable and unexpected verse from Method Man this past December. And now, it’s YG Addie’s turn at the plate.
Also known as A$AP Ant, Addie is the only Mob member with hometown affiliations outside of New York. The grimey, aggressive roots of this Baltimore-bred MC have consistently been evident in his musical approach — a pattern he continues on the latest L.O.R.D. single, “See Me.” “‘Where the licks at? Let’s hit that,’” spits Addie on the chorus, reflecting the video’s theme of thievery. The video complements the convulsive beat: It is subtle enough to keep from overpowering the in-your-face music while still adding another layer of trippy to the track, complete with cinematic mind games and the essential white ski masks.
