Ann Arbor ranked fourth on Amazon's Most Well-Read Cities in America

BY SARAH ALSADEN

Ann Arbor was ranked fourth on a list of the most well-read cities in America by Amazon.com.

The list includes many college towns including Cambridge, Massachusetts — home to Harvard University — which came in at first place, and Berkeley, California — where University of California, Berkeley is located — which came in third.

According to a May 26 press release, the list compiles data from book, magazine, newspaper and kindle purchases since Jan. 1. However, the list is limited in scope to purchases made from Amazon.com. In fact, the list includes only cities with populations over 100,000 and analyzes the data on a per capita basis, according to the press release.

Mari Malcolm, managing editor of Books at Amazon.com said in the press release the list was released in anticipation of the summer reading season.

"We hope book lovers across the country enjoy this fun look at where the most voracious readers reside, and that everyone gets the chance to relax with some great summer reads," Malcolm said.
