Video shows thief stealing Christmas lights in near-campus neighborhood

BY ADAM RUBENFIRE

At least one thief stole Christmas lights, holiday ornaments and festive lawn fixtures from 11 homes in the Ann Arbor Hills neighborhood early Monday and Tuesday morning, Ann Arbor Police said Thursday.

In a video provided to The Michigan Daily by the AAPD, a suspect is seen stealing what police say are penguin-themed lawn fixtures, ornaments and Christmas lights from two homes.

In the very beginning of the foggy security camera video, the suspect's car pulls up in the right corner of the frame, where he steals the lawn fixtures. He then comes into close view of the camera as he steals the lighting from another home.

The timestamp on the video is incorrect, according to police. The incident occurred at about 1:25 a.m. on Dec. 4.

AAPD Detective Chris Fitzpatrick said police believe the suspect may be a student. He described him as a white male in his late teens or early 20s.

Fitzpatrick encouraged anyone with information about the theft to contact him at 734-764-6930, extension 49324.
