New eateries for Union, League

As students finished their exams and left campus at the end of April, so too, did three campus eateries. After disappointing sales and low satisfaction ratings on student surveys, Magic Wok and Villa Pizza moved out of their Michigan Union locations and Bonici Brothers Pizza will soon leave the Michigan League.

Bill Rankin gained substantial bragging rights this weekend. The junior shot eight-under par to finish first at The Maxwell Tournament in Ardmore, Okla. this weekend. Senior Tim Schaetzel also tied for fourth at the end of the two-day tournament. But the Michigan men's golf team didn't leave the tournament with the same bragging rights.

But for "What Happens in Vegas" - the ostensibly doomed Cameron Diaz/Ashton Kutcher rom-com - it's actually an accomplishment. Michael Falk, an associate professor in the College of Engineering, won't return to the University in the fall. He and his partner, Matthew Scott, are moving to Maryland because of "damage that's been done to state's constitution," he said.

After Michigan's constitution was amended in 2004 to ban gay marriage and the Michigan Court of Appeals ruled that the amendment also prohibited public institutions from granting benefits to their employees' same-sex partners, Falk and Scott decided to leave the state.
