After dropping Friday night’s series-opener with CCHA conference leader, No. 11 Notre Dame, the No. 9 Michigan hockey team rebounded on Saturday to continue its recent streak of securing victories in game two.

The Wolverines scored three goals in the second period — their third three-goal period this season — to notch the series split, 5-3.
The Fighting Irish got out to an early lead for the second night in a row as a pair of Notre Dame freshmen connected for the first score of the game. Anders Lee fed a pass to linemate T.J Tynan, who scored on Wolverine senior netminder Bryan Hogan from between the circles five minutes into the first period.
But the Wolverines (5-2-1 CCHA, 6-3-3 overall) responded with a first-period tally of their own. Sophomore center A.J. Treais’s equalizer came off of a wraparound pass from sophomore winger Chris Brown to tie the game at one halfway into the first period.
Notre Dame netted the go-ahead goal with seven minutes remaining in the first. Michigan had a chance to rebound on its third power play of the series, but had difficulty penetrating the Notre Dame zone and only fired two shots on its first man-advantage of the game.
Senior center Matt Rust tied the game up with 9:28 remaining in the second period, injecting some life into a quiet crowd at Yost Ice Arena.
Senior defender Chad Langlais responded just 24 seconds later to put Michigan up 3-2. Langlais’s goal was his first of the season and gave the Wolverines their first lead of the night — and of the series.
Michigan didn’t take a single penalty in Friday’s game, but after each side sent a man to the box with just under seven minutes left in the second period on Saturday, the Wolverines couldn’t sustain the 4-on-4 and the Fighting Irish ripped a shot five-hole on Hogan’s to tie the game at 3.
But three minutes later, senior winger Carl Hagelin — who scored Michigan’s lone goal Friday night — connected on a pass from senior defender Tristin Llewellyn and sophomore right wing Kevin Lynch to give the Wolverines the lead once again.
Michigan added to its lead with a goal with just under eight minutes to play in the third period. Senior defender Greg Pateryn picked up his second goal of the season to give the Wolverines the two-goal advantage, which they held onto for the rest of the series finale.
