Friday's contest in Madison didn't exactly go how the Michigan women's tennis team planned.

The Wolverines were bested by No. 4 Florida in the first round of the ITA Team Indoor Championship.

It was the first appearance for Michigan (4-2) in the tournament, which features some of the best competition in the country.

No. 36 junior Denise Muresan attempted to spark the 16th-ranked Wolverines with a comeback win in singles. Muresan defeated No. 15 Lauren Embree in three sets to give Michigan its first individual match win.

Freshman Mimi Nguyen followed suit with a win of her own, but it wasn't enough as the Wolverines lost 5-2. Despite the defeat to the Gators (7-0), Michigan coach Ronnie Bernstein was optimistic about the team's performance.

"Today was a good chance to test our skills against top competition," Bernstein said. "There are a lot of good teams in this tournament and the fact that we are here and competing with them says a lot about our program. We just have to make sure we learn from today."

The Wolverines won't have a lot of time to evaluate their performance, as they return to the hard court tomorrow afternoon against a team that has yet to be determined.
