Ann Arbor Police are investigating an accident in which a University bus rear-ended a parked Department of Public Safety patrol car earlier this morning, according to DPS spokeswoman Diane Brown.

The crash occurred at an intersection near the Veterans Administration Hospital, according to an annarbor.com article.

In an interview with The Michigan Daily this afternoon, Brown said the patrol car was stationary at the time of the crash. According to Brown, the officer was inside the car, doing work involving a traffic stop, when the collision pushed the patrol car into the car the officer had pulled over.

The officer sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash, Brown said. She added that he was transported to the University Hospital emergency room but has since been released, though she could not comment on the nature of his injuries.

The patrol car was damaged beyond repair, Brown said.

According to Brown, the University bus was not carrying any passengers when it rear-ended the patrol car, and it sustained little discernible damage in the collision. Its driver was taken to the Veterans Administration Hospital's emergency room for an evaluation and has since been released, Brown said.

Brown said that since the collision involved two University vehicles, the Ann Arbor Police Department — and not DPS officers — will be handling the investigation in an effort to maintain neutrality in the case.

She said the cause of the accident has not been determined.

Reached today, Ann Arbor police confirmed they are currently investigating the accident.
