The Michigan women’s tennis team punched its ticket to the University of Georgia for next weekend’s NCAA Championships.

The fourth-ranked Wolverines beat rival Ohio State 4-0 at the Varsity Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. The Buckeyes beat No. 30 DePaul in the first round, but ran into a surging Michigan squad.

The team is led by a trio of juniors: No. 19 Denise Muresan and the No. 19 doubles team of Rika Tatsuno and Whitney Taney. The three of them will participate in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships in Georgia from May 25-31.

Taney and Tatsuno fought hard to clinch the doubles point for the team — it was their 15th doubles win in a row. Muresan followed with a tough three-set win in singles to clinch the match. Sophomore Michelle Sulahian continued her under-the-radar play with a dominating doubles performance and straight set singles victory.

Senior Tania Mahtani played the last home match of her career as she secured the third singles victory and the final point for the Wolverines

Michigan will now go to Athens, Georgia to play their third-round match at 3 p.m. on Thursday (May 20). They will play the winner of No. 13 Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
