The Wolverines were in the fourth spot after the first three rounds, trailing only tournament-host No. 9 Purdue, No. 17 Michigan State and No. 24 Ohio State. But their final round score of 318 was the highest of any team.
Michigan finished 59 strokes behind the Boilermakers, who blew away the competition, maintaining a lead after each round to win the Big Ten crown.
Junior Ashley Bauer tied for 11th in the conference but posted an 80 in the final round, her highest score of the tournament. Freshman Milena Savich tied for 20th, and senior Lydia Benitez Colon and sophomore Min Yean Tan both tied for 27th.
At the Indiana Invitational, the final regular season match of the tournament, Michigan finished ahead of all five Big Ten opponents — Wisconsin, Indiana, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois.
But this weekend it was a different story. Despite being in contention for second throughout the event, the Wolverines finished ahead of only three of those five teams. They were only five shots behind the runner-up Spartans after three rounds, but fell 17 more strokes in the last eighteen holes of competition, which landed them a disappointing 7th-place finish.
