Not even two hours after defeating Wright State in a six-inning mercy-rule victory, No. 1 seed Michigan went on to shut out No. 2 seed Notre Dame in the NCAA Ann Arbor regional, 8-0.

And the Wolverines are now the only team without a loss in the two-game elimination tournament.
Junior pitcher Jordan Taylor pitched phenomenally, striking out 11 Fighting Irish batters over five innings of work. She allowed just three hits on the day.
Michigan’s big inning came in the third, when senior third baseman Maggie Viefhaus and senior designated player Nikki Nemitz both smashed three-run homers. Viefhaus’s shot traveled so far it actually landed in the spacious outfield of the Ray Fisher baseball stadium.
This afternoon, No. 3 seed Illinois State (0-1) will face off against No. 4 seed Wright State (0-1), and the winner will play Notre Dame (1-1) tonight. The winner of tonight’s game will go on to play Michigan (2-0) tomorrow.
Michigan only needs one more victory to move onto the NCAA super regional. The team that winds up challenging the Wolverines tomorrow will have to beat them twice in order to advance.
The super regional will be a best-of-three series against the winner of Tennessee’s regional. That bracket consists of Tennessee (1-0), Virginia (1-0), Ball State (0-1) and Louisville (0-1).
